The burglary advice packs will be given to all victims of domestic burglary and their immediate neighbours within the Devon and Cornwall counties. Research carried out by Devon & Cornwall Constabulary has revealed that 96 per cent of people who have received the packs – which contain a marker pen to record property, basic crime prevention advice, stickers and information on victim support – have improved their home security as a result of the advice offered to them. Martin Harvey, general manager of ADT’s Plymouth branch, said the packs will “give valuable advice to both the victims of crime and their immediate neighbours, as studies have shown that the nearest eight dwellings to a burgled house are more susceptible to future break-in attempts”. ADT has also donated a community police care which will help police visit more people to offer crime prevention advice and support to victims, especially relating to burglary and anti-social behaviour incidents. This support is particularly important when people are feeling vulnerable after a break-in.
