Analysis in the air

The company was interested in improving safety in aircraft-only areas, heightening security in the wake of a 2006 car bombing, and preventing theft in its 200,000sq m facilities.

“In light of recent highly publicised security breaches and attacks at a number of airports, safety remains a primary concern at our operation,” said Diana Simon, security manager, Iberia Airlines. “Moving to an all IP-based solution required that we look for a highly-scalable video analytics offering that would allow us to deploy hundreds of cameras while eliminating the need for additional server hardware and keeping operational costs down. Agent Vi’s software allowed us to do that, and the analytics have performed extremely well despite the challenging outdoor environment near a busy airport.”

Iberia’s facilities, near Madrid-Barajas International Airport , include seven hangars and a computer operations center which controls check-in, boarding and reservations processes. Despite passing aircraft and trucks, and shadows from nearby trees, Agent Vi has given Iberia an easy way to accurately detect objects moving inside a defined area, entering or exiting a closed area, and crossing a virtual line – tracking both direction and speed, and differentiating among various objects by size and other parameters.

Agent Vi worked with local integrator, Nordes Prosegur Tecnologia, to install its video analytics software on network video recorders provided by On-Net Surveillance Systems Inc.
