Apprentices step up for IFSEC 2007 challenge
The Apprentice Skills Challenge, sponsored by BT redcare in association with Skills for Security, SSAIB and the NSI, will require participants to carry out a fault finding exercise prior to re-commissioning an existing system, in line with EN standards. The Challenge has evolved for 2007, with the task requiring critical assessment as well as installation skills, whilst working in pairs. The team with the most points wins the challenge and adventure experience vouchers, courtesy of BT redcare.
The contest has attracted huge interest from leading national companies in the security systems sector, and employers have recognised the importance of having their apprentices showcased at IFSEC where they have the opportunity to excel amongst their peers, and put their training into practice in public.
Skills for Security’s John Stanton said: “Apprentice installers are the future of this industry and we should do everything possible to encourage them to uphold professional standards. The standard of entry at least year’s event was incredible and we are looking forward to seeing more of the same this year.”
Apprentices interested in taking part in this year’s Apprentice Skills Challenge should contact John Stanton at Skills for Security on 08450 750111.
l Also at IFSEC, ACPO, the Association of Chief Police Officers’, will present an award that recognises the significant impact that security systems can have on public safety.
The ‘Use of Technology for Improving Public Safety Award’ will acknowledge the company that has made the biggest impact on public safety through the intelligent use of its technology, and will be part of the IFSEC Security Industry Innovation Awards. A wide variety of schemes and projects will be assessed and acclaim will be given to those that have reduced crime, detected offenders or reduced risk to the public in some way. This can include such projects as the incorporation of safety practices and equipment as part of a building design or the successful introduction of CCTV cameras.
