ASIS International announces 2012 Board of Directors as Alexandra Whyte joins UK Committee

In 2012, Eduard J Emde will serve as the 57th President of ASIS International, at the same time becoming the first non-US security practitioner to serve in this position.

Emde succeeds Raymond T O’Hara CPP, who now become ASIS Chairman of the Board.

In their leadership positions, both Emde and O’Hara will also serve on the Board Management Committee of the Board of Directors. The Board Management Committee directs the activities of ASIS between meetings of the full Board.

These volunteer leaders maintain the strategic continuity of the programmes, products and services ASIS provides.

The full 2012 ASIS Board Management Committee is comprised of five people:

  • Eduard J Emde CPP (president) (consultant with BMKISS Europe, Wassenaar, Netherlands)
  • Geoffrey T Craighead CPP (president-elect) (vice-president at Universal Protection Service, Santa Ana, California)
  • Richard E Widup Jr CPP (treasurer) (senior director of corporate security at Purdue Pharma LP, Stamford, Connecticut)
  • Dave N Tyson CPP (secretary) (vice-president at Apollo Information Systems, Los Gatos, California)
  • Raymond T O’Hara CPP (chairman of the Board) (executive vice-president for consulting and investigations, Andrews International, Palm Desert, California)

The office of the secretary was filled through an election by the 2012 Board of Directors on 19 September at ASIS International’s 57th Annual Seminar and Exhibits, which ran in Orlando, Florida fough to the 22 September.

Three new members were elected in August to serve on the Board of Directors for the 2012-2014 term. They are:

  • Deborah L Allen CPP (director, product stewardship and security, Potash Corporation, Northbrook, Illinois)
  • Darryl R Branham CPP (senior director, security systems, Travelers Insurance Company, St. Paul, Minnesota)
  • John E Turey CPP (director of Security, ITT, White Plains, New York)

The following members continue to serve on the ASIS Board of Directors:

  • Brian J Allen CPP (chief of security, Time Warner Cable, New York)
  • Marene Allison (worldwide vice-president of information security, Johnson & Johnson, Raritan, New Jersey)
  • Chad Callaghan CPP (vice-president, global safety and security, Marriott International Inc, Washington DC)
  • David C Davis CPP (senior manager, Northrop Grumman, San Bernardino, California)
  • Edward G Hallen CPP (manager, safety and security services, Occidental Petroleum Corporation, Los Angeles, California)
  • Joseph H McDonald CPP PSP (CSO, Switch Communications Group, Las Vegas, Nevada)
  • Stephen Scharf (senior vice-president and global CISO, Experian, Costa Mesa, California)

ASIS Board members serve a three-year term. The newly elected Board and officers will assume their roles on 1 January 2012.

Whyte joins ASIS UK Chapter’s Committee

ASIS UK is delighted to announce that Alexandra Whyte (group security manager at Johnson Matthey) has accepted an invitation to join the Chapter’s Committee.

Whyte started her policing and security career in the Royal Military Police back in 1989. After leaving the Army, Whyte gained a BSc in Sports Science and Nutrition. She then switched services and took a commission in the Royal Air Force serving as a Provost Officer in various roles and locations.

In 2006, Whyte left the RAF to set up her own business as a personal trainer. In 2010, she was recruited as a group security assessor for the FTSE 100 company Johnson Matthey.

Whyte commenced an MSc course in Security Management through the University of Loughborough in April this year, at the same time she was promoted to group security manager for Johnson Matthey.

Whyte joined ASIS in April 2010 and has attended two ASIS International exhibitions. She volunteered to be the UK ASIS Women in Security (WIS) representative in July 2011 and just recently became the ASIS Europe WIS representative.

The ASIS UK Committee looks forward to Alex’s contribution to the development of the Chapter.
