Ask The Security experts

WHAT DOES THE END USER NEED TO TAKE into account when changing from analogue to digital surveillance systems? How might you plan a perimeter protection system for your company’s sites?
And what are the cost differentials between conventional prox card access control and the very latest biometric systems?
If you’re looking for detailed answers to technical specification questions then look no further than ‘Ask The Expert’, a free and dedicated service to end users launched this month in another pioneering move by Security Management Today (SMT) – the industry’s leading journal for security professionals.
Every month, we will introduce two companies (either manufacturers or service providers) who are recognised experts in their particular field – be it CCTV, access control, intruder alarms, perimeter security, central stations, fire alarms or locking systems, etc.
Readers will then be able to go online (at www.smtdirect.co.uk), click on the ‘Ask The Expert’ icon and e-mail their technical question to the company’s designated expert(s).
Answers will be e-mailed back to you usually within 24 hours of receipt, and will be as detailed as possible. They’ll also appear on the SMT web site, and will be archived so that you and other readers can return to different topic areas as and when you wish. This will make for a powerful online security resource which can then be used in conjunction with our already up-and-running Internet-based magazine archive search tool.
It’s important to stress that the SMT Experts Online system actually allows answers sent to you to contain tabular material, working diagrams, explanatory images and even pdf files. That way, we are able to offer you truly comprehensive feedback.
From this edition onwards, these two pages will run in each month’s SMT so that you’ll know well in advance which security experts will be appearing. Thus you’ll have plenty of time to draft your questions.
Make sure you keep an eye out for the top Questions and Answers from the previous month as well, as this will give you an idea of what’s being stored in our archive.
