State of Physical Access Trend Report 2024

Best read stories on info4security: November 2008

Some big stories in November – and the biggest, globally, was the news of Barack Obama’s victory in the US presidential elections. John Honovich and Brian Sims looked at the possible impact on the security industry.

An interesting month for the UK’s Security Industry Authority, with chief executive Mike Wilson asked to step down, and Securiplan fined for employing unlicensed officers.

In the month that Woolworths went to the wall financially, a thief at one of its stores was convicted using evidence from forensic DNA substance SmartWater. And with banks not exactly enjoying a fantastic public image at the moment, news of HSBC employing facial recognition security measures was also a winner with readers.

Douglas Greenwell looked at the challenges facing the retail security sector in this current period of economic turmoil – that went live just last week, but raced into our top ten most read stories for the month.

Elsewhere, video technology proved popular, in the form of a report from our Next Generation CCTV conference on video analytics, and an interview with David Markland of Sanyo on HD CCTV.

Our regular Access Control Doctor feature with Adam Stroud of Paxton Access provided useful information, as ever.

And a report on a fast track course for officers to receive Accredited Person status from ACPO rounded out our top ten stories for November.
