Beyond Fire Risk Assessments

[

Fire safety consultancy, Bodycote Warringtonfire, has expanded its fire risk assessment service to help simplify the process of transforming assessment information into active processes and protocols. The new service includes fire safety reviews, audits, development and review of evacuation procedures and the preparation of building fire safety plans.

“In complex building arrangements, translating the fire strategy or fire risk assessment into achievable procedures is not always straightforward,” says Neil Woods, Bodycote Warringtonfire’s risk assessment and training manager. “This [range of services] gives an independent assessment of various fire safety management procedures and fire safety systems, which can then be translated into practical action plans used to drive improvements in fire safety.”

The ‘high level’ fire safety review involves a full review of the fire safety arrangements for a particular building or site encompassing all fire safety documentation, procedures, policy and training, as well as the adequacy of key physical arrangements such as means of escape and fire safety systems. This form of review is more comprehensive in its scope than a fire risk assessment in the areas of management procedures and documentation. It is not an alternative to a risk assessment, rather it builds upon the risk assessment and other documentation.

“The resulting building fire safety plan is a blueprint for operational fire safety management, since it focuses on detail rather than the high level objectives contained in a fire strategy. Clients find this particularly useful in managing change, be it staffing, changes to the fabric of the building or fire safety systems,” concludes Woods.
