Bin ‘bugging’ is rubbish
Darren Harrold, sales and marketing director, said although the parent company in Germany manufactures the BiTech RFID waste management system, none of the UK systems they were involved in identified specific types of garbage “so any claims about ‘bugging’ domestic waste are utterly groundless”.
He said bin tagging using RFID had been in use for more than 15 years and there were more than two million tagged in the UK.
“Bin tags cannot in any way monitor and electronically transmit the contents of a bin.”
Working with vehicle mounted readers the tags can provide data about the type of garbage collected (green or landfill), comparison of the time taken to complete rounds and identify the volume of garbage collected to individuals.
