Several Bosch Security Systems’ 600 Series DVRs have been installed at the Beatles Story visitor attraction in Liverpool.
The Beatles Story is the world’s leading Beatles-themed visitor attraction. Established in 1988, it opened at the famous Albert Dock in May 1990 and has been expanded upon and developed several times in the intervening period.
As part of the latest refurbishment, the management decided upon an upgrade to security. They approached Mark Ashall, operations director at Unique Integrated Systems (UIS) to specify what needed upgrading (he’d worked on the original solution in the Albert Dock).
“The old system was a mismatch of three different DVRs,” explained Ashall, “with different-sized hard drives and cabling that needed modernising.”
Ashall and Co decided that the best plan was to move the control panel into the Comms Room so that the cabling could be re-organised.
“We also specified four Bosch 600 Series DVRs, as well as a control keyboard. We’d worked with these DVRs on a number of others sites and have been very pleased with their reliability and performance.”
Video management via LAN, WAN or the Internet
The Bosch Security Systems DVR 600 is part of a new series of digital video recorders enabling operators to manage video from any location via LAN, WAN or the Internet.
These models support playback in multiple display aspect ratios including widescreen, high resolution monitors. Viewing is also possible directly from web-enabled mobile devices.
Models in the 600 Series are either eight or 16-channel DVRs that add the ability for the user or installer to engage with cost-effective storage of up to 4 TB in one unit.
They’re designed to be affordable, and targeted at a variety of small to medium-sized applications. Units are “easy to install and configure”, requiring no special training and “working continuously and reliably”.
Control is achieved via a choice of keyboard, mouse, infra-red remote control or directly from the front panel.
Comment from the end user
Alan McCarthy, security manager at the Beatles Story, believes the security improvements made reflect an ongoing dedication to the customer experience.
“We have some low light level areas that the cameras are suited to survey without losing picture quality,” he outlined.
“The monitors, cameras and keyboard are very easy to use and, now that the final parts of the system have been upgraded with the Bosch DVRs, we’re confident that whatever may happen on site, we will be able to capture all events and use the footage should we need to do so.”
