BSIA launches IP guide online
The document, which is available through the association’s website, was issued in response to the growing popularity of IP in security applications.
“As the generation of ‘digital’ systems is seeing a trend towards IP in all applications, security installers are now being asked to provide IP solutions which require an understanding of IT,” said Alex Carmichael, the BSIA’s technical director.
“This guide provides guidance on the key elements of IP, therefore assisting installers in providing the best service possible for their customers.”
The document provides information on different network types and how to assign IP addresses to devices in order to pass information between hosts. Offering advice on design and installation considerations, the guide also considers the types of transmission devices available, and the many hardware elements that make up a network.
A handy section of the guide covers the considerations for specifying a system, useful DOS commands and tips for testing networks.
