Cabinet detection and suppression systems at Delhi airport
[
Electrical control cabinets at Delhi International Airport’s new Terminal Three building are being protected by Firetrace detection and suppression systems. To date, 300 systems have been delivered and this is due to rise to 500 before the terminal becomes operational at the end of the year.
The system is designed to provide the airport with self-contained, fast response detection, discharge and suppression for any fire that may break out in these essential areas of the building management infrastructure.
The system, which is UL and FM certified, comprises an extinguishing agent cylinder that is attached to proprietary detection tubing via a custom engineered valve. This small bore polymer tubing is a linear pneumatic heat and flame detector that was developed to deliver the desired temperature-sensitive detection and delivery characteristics. The tubing is active along its entire length so that when any fire is detected, it ruptures and automatically releases the suppression agent, extinguishing the fire precisely where it starts.
As the tube is flexible, it can be threaded through the complex and tightly packed nature of the electrical cabinets. It enters and leaves each compartment through the integral cable glands, so does not compromise the Ingress Protection rating of the cabinet.
