CameraWatch CEO to speak at inaugural CCTV World Conference
Running at the Sofitel in Sydney later this month, CCTV World 2011 brings together professionals from various sectors (including retail, public transport, hospitality, manufacturing, warehousing, banking and local Government, as well as law enforcement, security and CCTV experts) in a bid to uncover the very latest surveillance technologies and the implications of such developments for both the implementation and management of CCTV networks.
The event is designed to focus on critical issues including the move from analogue to digital CCTV systems and the implications for organisations using CCTV technology, along with the benefits that new technologies can bring.
CCTV World 2011 will also offer insight into policy and legislation, as well as the privacy issues surrounding the use of CCTV surveillance systems for security both locally and internationally. There’ll also be an examination of cost saving strategies that can be put in place when implementing CCTV networks, the need for increased data security with IP-based systems and systems migration challenges (and how to manage them).
In addition, the changing requirements in terms of the expertise needed when moving towards digital CCTV networks will also be under the microscope.
Expertise in CCTV data protection
CameraWatch’s CEO and compliance director Paul Mackie was extended a personal invitation due to his expertise in the CCTV data protection field and will be the only speaker for the events section on this subject as the gathering appraises how Australia should seek to learn from the experiences of the UK with regards to regulation and legislation.
Mackie is also carrying out a half-day workshop during the conference programme where he will be concentrating on: ‘How to avoid getting caught in the trap of operating illegal CCTV systems’.
Eager to back the event, Mackie told Info4Security: “I’m very keen to support the CCTV industry and CCTV users in the Southern Hemisphere such that they can avoid the problems raised through the non-existent regulation of CCTV systems in the UK.”
Mackie went on to state: “Through recognising the issues and repercussions of non-compliant CCTV systems in the UK, hopefully I can support the conference attendees to ensure that they use CCTV systems properly and legally, with a specific emphasis on the personal data captured.”
CameraWatch is on record as stating that over 90% of CCTV systems observed by the organisation throughout the UK do not comply with the Law of the Land.
“They are in fact illegal,” stressed Mackie, “and, as such, this raises severe questions when it comes to the use of CCTV images as evidence in a court of law.”
