Campaign claims hotels ignoring needs of deaf

A survey commissioned by Fireco Ltd claims that “thousands of hotel guests with hearing disabilities are getting a raw deal and being treated like an underclass”. It says that some 80 per cent of UK hotels do not have the basic level of services to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing guests. Chilton said: “Most deaf people take their hearing aids out at night, making them less likely to hear a normal audible fire alarm, so flashing alarms and fire alarm systems with vibrating under-pillow pads ensure that all guests are alerted in case of a fire.”

– NORTH YORKSHIRE FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE HAS highlighted the dangers of carbon monoxide after installing 400 FireAngel detectors in homes. Within weeks of the installs, it was found that numerous homes had heating devices emitting CO.
