CCTV: Pupil steers bus to safety after driver has heart attack
Surveillance footage of two schoolchildren saving the lives of 12 pupils on their school bus after the driver had a heart attack has emerged.
In the CCTV images the driver, on the right of the picture can be seen slumping back in his chair as he has a heart attack. 13-year-old Jeremy Wuitschick then jumps out of his seat and steers the bus to safety, before taking the keys from the ignition.
Another boy, Johnny Wood, then helps Jeremy perform CPR on the driver, who was later taken to hospital and sadly died some time later. He was identified as 43-year-old Ryan Callis. His cousin Reggie Green said that Callis would rest easier knowing that the kids were okay.
Speaking to local media, the boy who stopped the bus said “I was just thinking ‘I don’t want to die’.”
