CFOA’s new guidance emphasises water suppression systems
[
A new guide to automatic water suppression systems has been published by the Chief Fire Officers’ Association (CFOA). The guidance is aimed predominantly at fire safety officers and strategic managers in the fire and rescue service, to promote the use of sprinklers and other water suppressions systems.
The latest official figures estimate that the total cost of fire to the country in 2004 was around GB pound 7 billion, with an average cost of GB pound 34,000 for a domestic fire and GB pound 147,500 for one at a commercial premises. It is estimated that around 60% of private companies that suffer a fire never recover and eventually go out of business.
“CFOA is committed to saving life and protecting property through the application of sprinklers and other water suppression systems,” said Phil Toase, CFOA president.
“CFOA is independently progressing and contributing to a number of initiatives which seek to promote the use of sprinklers in our communities. The business case is compelling: water suppression systems save life, reduce injuries, protect any property and sustain businesses,” he added.
