Colt International install safety system at Liverpool One

[

Colt International has supplied a specially designed control system for the 2,000 capacity car park at ‘Liverpool One’ shopping centre. In the event of a fire, smoke would be driven along a zoned route by a series of aerodynamic dampers which open and close automatically to increase smoke extraction.

This new scheme, according to tests run by Colt International in May, helps to keep escape routes clear of smoke, without the need of physical barriers.

This scheme, consisting of 80 Colt Cyclone and 22 Colt Jetstream impulse fans, with associated grilles, dampers and extract systems is controlled by detection systems. The detection systems pinpoint the location of the smoke and operate the fans and dampers according to set logic.

Laing O’Rourke, Colt’s customer and the main contractor carried out cold smoke tests to ensure that the rate of smoke clearance was adequate. They found that the smoke didn’t spread into conjoining areas but rather was funnelled towards the requisite extraction points, which had been selected by the detection system.
