Composiflex goes ballistic with new shields

The HG Series, which provides level IIIA protection, is said to be the first range to offer users a shield-wide viewing port. Composiflex said this offers greater visibility and protection in combat situations when compared to traditional shields, which need to be moved around for users to see where they are going.

The field-tested shields are primarily being marketed towards police and government agencies and feature contoured sides that should allow users to fire weapons easily and with a straightened arm. Available in three sizes (19″ x 34″, 22″ x 36″, and 22″ x 48″), the patent-pending shields also feature ergonomically designed handles and ‘bumpers’ to protect the viewing ports from scratches.

Composiflex claims that, using aramid ballistic materials and weighing around 17 lbs, its 22″ x 36″ model is one of the lightest level IIIA shields available. Button-activated LEDs and halogen lights installed on the shields are said to be able to ‘stun’ antagonists with powerful strobe and blinder functions.

Feedback from soldiers and SWAT team members at this year’s Original SWAT World Challenge in Little Rock, Arkansas, prompted Composiflex to modify the shield’s handle and contour features for greater ease of use.
