Conflict Professional Award winner announced
Bill Mottram, healthcare security manager at Securitas Security Services, was commended for his work at Southmead hospital in Bristol.
Mottram put measures in place to help hospital staff deal with violent members of the public in the accident and emergency department and to help security staff challenge thieves.
He also developed techniques for dealing with disorientated patients and distressed relatives, and his work on a basic awareness course for new members of staff has been responsible for a reduction in the number of staff injuries at the hospital.
Mottram was handed the prize by Stefan Hay, director of business development and communication at Skills for Security, during a ceremony at London’s Canary Wharf.
The ‘highly-commended’ award – also presented at the SMT-sponsored event – went to managing director of Rocksteady group, Mark Hamilton. Hamilton has been at the forefront of introducing higher standards of security and crowd management.
Mark Jenner, general manager of ConflictPro, which organised the event, said he was staggered by the quality of the entries received this year.
“Selecting a worthy winner was not difficult, but deciding which of the shortlisted nominees had made the most significant contribution to reducing workplace violence was a challenge for the panel of judges,” he said.
The Conflict Professional Awards were introduced in 2006 to highlight the good conflict management work that is taking place on a day-to-day basis and to share best practice throughout the industry.
A full list of winners can be viewed on the ConflictPro conference website.
