The study was conducted by Read Hayes, director of the Loss Prevention Retail Council. It assessed the effectiveness of Checkpoint’s Alpha Keeper system in reducing shrinkage, increasing sales affecting ‘out of stock’ occurrences, and gauging perception from customers and employees.
The Keepers are clear polycarbonate cases with specialised electronics designed to prtoect merchandise.
The survey showed that in all test stores, shrinkage was significantly lowered, with the effect increasing over time. Sales also increased due to greater availability of products on shelve.
The study claimed the Keepers had “an internal rate of return of 139 per cent during the test period”.
