Delhi High Court to have enhanced security cover
The Indian Express daily reports that the Delhi High Court will have a formidable security structure, worked out on a three-tier protection scheme, whereby visitors will be subjected to security checks even after they collect their entry pass.
The report stated that the absence of security personnel at the entry pass counter outside Gate No 5 of the Delhi High Court had increased the possibility of the attack on 7 September which claimed the lives of 13 people and left more than 80 injured.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which has been asked to take over internal security from the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC), conducted a review of the High Court’s protection arrangements on Friday and plotted areas where security personnel were required.
“The CRPF official, as decided upon during the meeting on Thursday, conducted a review of the entire High Court complex and sketched out a plan for the building’s internal security. However, heavy rain played spoilsport and the review could not be completed,” Court sources said in the report.
Meeting chaired by the Chief Justice
The new security structure was mapped out in a meeting chaired by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, three senior judges of the High Court, members of the Bar Association and representatives of the Delhi Government, the police service, the PWD, NDMC, MHA, SAI and the ITPO.
In order to beef up the standards of security, it was decided that the CRPF should now look after internal security while the Delhi Police performs security functions in and around the building.
As well as the installation of 49 CCTV cameras in and around the periphery of the High Court complex, 45 automatic vehicle under-body scanners for cars will also be put in place in the next three weeks.
Justice Misra has asked the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) to complete systems installation work within the given deadline.
