Disabled refuge system at Chester University

[

C-TEC’s new disabled refuge system, SigTEL Compact, has been installed at one of Chester University’s most prestigious buildings as part of an GB pound 800,000 redevelopment.

The disabled refuge system in the newly refurbished Best Building, consists of an 8-line stainless steel flush-mounted master EVC control unit, located in the entrance hall on the ground floor and connected by 2-core enhanced fire rated cable to a remote outstation on the first floor of the building.

In the event of an emergency, SigTEL Compact facilitates effective two way communication between building management and people located in the refuge area to, firstly, assist rescue teams in determining where assistance is required and, secondly, to reassure people help is on the way.

Simon Dwight of Tonetec, the company which carried out the installation, said: “SigTEL is not only fully compliant with BS 5839 Part 9 but also incredibly easy to install and operate.”

Suitable for use in all types of EVC application – be it a disabled refuge, fire telephone or stadium marshalling system – C-TEC’s system is said to be cost-effective and ideal for hotels, leisure centres, theatres, cinemas, galleries, shopping centres and any other non-domestic building with more than one storey. A 16-128 line modular wall/desk-mounting version for larger buildings is also available.

Four SigNET PDA200E induction loop systems have also been installed in the building’s seminar rooms, and a powerful PDA200/2 Pro-Range induction loop system now operates in the 172-seat modern lecture theatre in the building which houses the university’s Faculty of Social Science.
