Scotland Yard continues to use footage of the Ealing Bomber in a bid to positively identify the subject – a move that’s been roundly welcomed by Steve Dunham, Ealing Borough Council’s dedicated security systems manager (pictured right).
Video footage of the Real IRA terrorist was captured by some of the 255 JVC cameras specified by Dunham to boost security in the Borough. They showed the terrorist parking the now-infamous Saab 9000, which was packed with 88 lbs of home-made explosives.
The resulting explosion rocked the main shopping thoroughfare, injuring 11 bystanders and causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to local retail outlets and offices alike.
"It’s the first time a dissident IRA terrorist has been captured on film," Dunham told SMT. "We’re proud of the fact that we can help the police with their enquiries."
Dunham has been proactive since the bombing, designing a custom-built CCTV Control Centre for the Borough.
