A new Code of Practice concentrating on electric security fences is the direct result of a collaboration between the Fencing Contractors’ Association (FCA), the Electric Security Fencing Federation and the British Security Industry Association (BSIA).
The ‘Electric Security Fences: Design, Installation and Maintenance’ Code of Practice (PAS 47) was produced over a three-year period in consultation with manufacturers, installers and Government departments. It addresses the specification and quality of manufactured fencing systems, and provides guidance to clients regarding their selection of appropriate installers.
“Standards really are the key to guaranteed service and delivery of products within our industry,” commented Martin Williams, chairman of the BSIA’s Physical Security Section. “They’re necessary to provide clarity and peace of mind for both end users and security companies alike. PAS 47 will be instrumental in providing safe, Best Practice fencing installations.”
FCA chief executive Wendy Baker added: “During the past decade there have been an increasing number of electric security fence installations in the UK. That being the case, the safety of installers and end users must be paramount.”
