State of Physical Access Trend Report 2024

Encom protects business centre

The Centre is managed by Park West Enterprise Centre Management Company, or PWEC. It asked Encom to develop a solution to provide greater security in its car parks and reduce vandalism which was proving increasingly costly to fix.

Encom’s solution comprised a number of Axis 214 PTZ network cameras which offer automatic day and night vision, motion detection and require minimal adjustment. A number of specialist Axis 221 network cameras were also specified for use in specific trouble spots because of their active tampering alarm capability and the option to automatically alert back a central control location if moved or obstructed.

All network cameras are connected via a wireless network using Senao NOC 3320 Wireless Access Points. Images are then managed and recorded by Axis Camera Station which offers automatic camera discovery. All images are collected at 640 x 480 resolution on motion detection only and are recorded for 20 days. The whole system, including installation of all wireless communications, cost approximately 20,000 Euros and the benefits and return on investment have already proved significant, according to PWEC.

Tom Duffy, director, PWEC Management Company, said: “Clear reduction in vandalism and other minor crimes at the Park West Enterprise Centre has made for a safer and more pleasant environment for both business owners and their staff. The flexibility afforded by the use of wireless cameras allowed us to cover a large area quickly and cost effectively. We are very pleased with the new surveillance system and expect to extend it later in 2008.”
