ESPlus installs IP security for TV company

Hat Trick Productions, which makes programmes such as ‘Have I Got News for You’, ‘Father Ted’ and ‘Room 101’, moved into the new 16,000 sq ft premises in Camden, London, in February.

The company’s relocation followed a year-long development of the site in which ESPlus was closely involved.

“We started with a completely empty shell – without even walls or ceilings – and have fitted it out to a very high standard,” explains Hat Trick’s Facilities Manager Steve Madden.

“Phil Willis, a director from ESPlus, worked with us right from the planning and design stage to ensure that the security system installation went smoothly. We told them we wanted a system that would be flexible enough for all future requirements, including changes in the way the building is used.”

Key coverage
Using an IP-infrastructure, ESPlus installed external cameras to cover the entrance and exit areas of the building, as well as key internal areas such as the main reception.

The building is sited at the heart of a new residential complex so it cannot be fenced off – therefore effective discreet surveillance and access control at all the entry-points was considered essential.

Access control has also been designed internally with a mag-lock and proximity card system protecting different areas of the building. Requirements for staff to use their – cards change depending on the time of day – and can be easily re-programmed.

“We were not sure how much security we would need in this new location so we wanted a system that we could quickly ramp-up, or relax, depending on circumstances,” Madden said.

Flexible building
The access system and CCTV can be controlled securely from any authorised PC and are also integrated with the site’s remotely monitored intruder and fire alarm systems.

The security system allows flexibility in the way the building is used – in the future, for example, different areas of the site could be sub-let to other businesses or could be run as secure stand-alone, units.

With the development work now complete ESPlus is providing ongoing security maintenance services for Hat Trick Productions.
