Fan powered shaft cuts hotel costs in half

Colt International has cut the cost of smoke extraction in a new London hotel by installing its Shaft fan-powered system.

The system requires a shaft of only 0.6m2 compared with 3m2 for a conventional BRE shaft. This represented an 80% reduction in the floor space required. In addition it is half the cost of a pressurisation system.

The project involved Colt supplying, installing and commissioning its shaft for the seven-storey Hoxton Hotel in London and is the first in which Colt Shaft has been specified.
