Fire Strategy document aims at ironing out inconsistencies
[
A new fire strategy guidance document aimed at fire engineers, fire prevention officers and facilities managers has been launched as a Publicly Available Specification by British Standards Institution (BSI).
PAS 911:2007 ‘Fire strategies – guidance and framework for their formulation’ was prepared by BSI in association with Kingfell plc. It is described as an ‘analysis toolkit’ to resolve the lack of consistency in preparing fire strategies. The document uses a number of new techniques and analysis tools and is designed to provide a framework for a quantifiable strategy using agreed protocols.
On its launch Paul Bryant, CEO of Kingfell plc, commented: “A fire strategy can vary considerably in terms of both content and format, depending on the organisation that prepares it.” In addition he added: “Since the introduction of the Fire Safety Order there has been an understandable focus on fire risk assessments in the UK, which has somewhat diverted attention away from looking at the overall fire safety picture. A fire strategy is an all-encompasing document designed to overview how fire can impact on a building and a business so, hopefully, the new PAS will redress the balance.”
