FM framework agreement secures major hospital contracts for MITIE

The contracts come on the back of MITIE’s appointment to the Government Procurement Service’s Facilities Management Framework Agreement.

The contract with Royal Berkshire Hospital is reported to be valued at GB pound 2 million on an annual basis across three years. MITIE will deliver mechanical and electrical services, building fabric maintenance, water management and landscaping.

In addition, the company will take care of the management of 28 specialist services including lifts, generators, communications equipment and security systems (as well as specialist services including medical gases, theatre validation and clinical lighting).

The contract went live on 1 July this year and is the first acute hospital contract to deliver technical FM awarded under the Government Procurement Service’s Framework Agreement.

MITIE has also been awarded a five-year, GB pound 2 million per annum contract with St Georges Healthcare NHS Trust (one of the largest healthcare providers in south west London).

The contract involves the provision of specialist maintenance services across the hospital including M&E, fabric maintenance and project services to the 20 buildings in the Trust’s estate.

Martin Holt, managing director of MITIE’s technical facilities management business, said: “We’re delighted to have won these contracts, both of which have come about due to our position on the approved Government Procurement Service’s Framework Agreement.”

Holt continued: “By dint of the fact that we’re able to deliver more services under one supplier, our healthcare clients are benefiting from greater bundling of services which is helping them save money while still maintaining excellent standards of service delivery. At a time of budgetary pressure this is something our clients are increasingly appreciating.”

MITIE and Friends Life join forces on GB pound 4.5 million design and build scheme

MITIE has won a GB pound 4.5 million design and build contract with leading insurer Friends Life.

Under the Terms and Conditions of the deal, MITIE will upgrade two 30,000 sq ft buildings in Maidenhead such that they comply with current Building Regulations as well as ensuring that they’re an attractive letting proposition in the current market.

The fully refurbished buildings will feature new floors and ceilings, with impressive reception areas including stone desks and walls. The work comprises a shell and core strip out followed by a refit to Category A standards.

The project includes the removal of walkways connecting three buildings and the restoration of cladding to make them stand alone. The exterior will be updated with new entrance glazing and canopies, as well as remedial works to external cladding and landscaping.

MITIE is going to install new, more efficient main plant ensuring more cost-effective heating and ventilation. The building is targeted to achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’.

Dale Harding, managing director of MITIE Interiors, commented: “We’re delighted to be working with Friends Life on this extensive refit. MITIE is well placed to serve the existing market, updating office premises to ensure building owners and landlords reach full letting capacity.”

MITIE wins multi-million pound contract at Cambridge University

On top of all that news, MITIE has just been awarded an GB pound 11 million contract to provide mechanical, electrical, public health and specialist services for a new 10,000 m2 building at the Department of Materials, Science and Metallurgy in Cambridge.

The project involves the construction of a number of specialist laboratory facilities, among them an electron microscopy suite.

A specialist in energy efficiency and sustainability, MITIE has designed a mixed ventilation system to maximise the use of natural ventilation supplemented by mechanical cooling.

An open loop cooling system will recycle water throughout the building while rainwater will be harvested for irrigation and WCs.

Over 200 m2 of photovoltaic panels will generate the electrical equivalent of 23 kW, yielding savings of 9,800 kg in CO2 emissions per year.

The entire plant room will be built off-site at MITIE’s specialist workshop in Exeter, in turn speeding up delivery time and ensuring quality control.

Bill Robson, the managing director of MITIE’s Property Management business, said: “This latest project at Cambridge University is a big win and we’re committed to a timely delivery, adding value and energy savings for Cambridge University and our partners.”

The target for the building is to attain a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ and an Energy Performance Certificate rating of ‘B’.

Carried out on behalf of Willmott Dixon Construction, the design and installation project will be completed in Fe
