G4S opens world class Superbranch for London and the South East
The new branch showcases leading-edge technology that ensures the cash requirements of the Capital and surrounding areas can be serviced more efficiently and effectively than ever before.
The Nine Elms branch – which will be officially opened by Andrew Bailey, chief cashier and executive director of the Bank of England – is the fifth of its kind to be opened by G4S in the UK, having been preceded by sites at Manchester, Bristol, Belfast and Glasgow.
Best Practice in security processes
Boasting state-of-the-art production lines, the site brings all elements of the cash management process under one roof. The corresponding increased efficiency levels and Best Practice in security processes ensures that G4S can provide a world class cash management service in the UK.
As the leading provider of cash services in the UK, G4S partners with everyone from the smallest independent on the High Street through to the largest corporate in the City, all of whom play a vital part in the local and national economic health of the nation.
With a fleet of 95 armoured vehicles equipped with the latest security features and constantly monitored by a central control centre, the new branch is well equipped to cope with the diverse cash requirements of the Capital and surrounding areas.
Intelligent cash management systems
Commenting on the development, Ian Nisbet – the chief executive at G4S Cash Services (UK and Ireland) – said: “With cash remaining such an essential part of the UK economy, companies operating in the cash services sector bear the responsibility of ensuring that it is recycled and redistributed within the economy as efficiently as possible. In this sort of unpredictable climate, faster, more efficient and intelligent cash management systems such as those offered at the new Nine Elms branch are of vital importance, and represent the future of cash management in the UK.”
Adding his voice, Andrew Bailey said: “This new G4S cash centre is an impressive advance in cash management. Cash remains an important and very widely used means of payment. It’s something that we all depend upon. With this new centre, G4S is helping to provide banks and retailers with a secure and efficient way to manage their cash requirements.”
Each year, the cash services industry transports around GB pound 500 billion (that’s equivalent to GB pound 1.4 billion every day), using around 8,000 couriers and a fleet of some 4,000 vehicles. On its own, G4S is responsible for issuing a third of all the notes used in circulation by the British public on behalf of the Bank of England.
Vast UK branch network
Part of G4S plc, G4S Cash Services is the leading UK provider of cash management solutions, including secure cash transportation, deposit processing, note sorting, ATM outsourcing solutions and outsourced till management.
In the UK, the company deploys more than 7,000 employees and uses a fleet of around 2,000 vehicles throughout a network of 44 cash transportation branches and ten cash and coin centres.
G4S to secure Midlands hospitals
G4S Integrated Services, which specialises in integrated facilities management and specialist support services in critical environments, has won a multi-million pound contract to provide South Warwickshire General Hospitals NHS Trust with a wide range of facilities management services. The five-year contract starts on 1 February.
The contract is to deliver services at Warwick Hospital and Stratford-upon-Avon Hospital. G4S will directly employ and deploy 205 staff to provide a comprehensive range of facilities management services such as cleaning, portering, Help Desk and catering for patients, staff and visitors. In addition, G4S Security Services (UK) will be providing security and car parking services.
G4S won the contract to replace the existing facilities management providers following a competitive EU tender process. Existing staff will be given the opportunity to transfer across to G4S, under TUPE legislation, while additional staff may be hired to strengthen key service areas.
Track record of NHS contracts
Chris Elliott – group managing director at G4S Integrated Services – commented: “This prestigious contract builds on our long track record of working with NHS Hospital Trusts. I’m particularly pleased that G4S Security Services (UK) is able to work with us on delivering the security requirements of the contract. We have a strong reputation for facilities and security management in critical environments, and we look forward to demonstrating the value of our services to the Trust and its customers in the coming years.”
Glen Burley – chief executive of the South Warwickshire General Hospitals NHS Trust – added: “G4S demonstrated the ability to provide us with excellent services, and we look forward to working with them to deliver those services for our patients.”
