Gate Safe is the national safety initiative which continues to campaign for improved standards in the sphere of automated gate safety.
The formal half-day training course represents an important landmark for Gate Safe, which has always strongly voiced the need for an enhanced understanding of the standards and guidelines pertaining to automatic gates among all professionals associated with a powered gate installation.
The Gate Safe Aware training course has been specially developed in conjunction with IOSH, and working in tandem with the Tailored Course Approval Team.
In essence, the new course is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the key factors influencing the safety of an automatic gate and the recommended safety protocol that should be followed to ensure a compliant installation.
Installers who choose to take the course and pass the final assessment will be entitled to access to the Gate Safe Aware logo for a 12-month period.
‘Gate Safe Aware Installers’ will also have their details listed on the Gate Safe website, in turn providing end users with a simple route to identifying an installer that’s equipped with the required knowledge to deliver a safe automated gate installation.
Improving the understanding and interpretation of standards
Commenting on the training, Gate Safe campaign founder Richard Jackson explained: “We are delighted that one of our original objectives – to improve the understanding and interpretation of the standards and various guidance documents – is finally well on its way to being met. We’ve incorporated much of the technical recommendations referenced in the Gate Safe/DHF Guide to Gate Safety Legislation and Standards, combined with additional guidance specifically from Gate Safe to develop this training module.”
Jackson continued: “Working together with IOSH has enabled us to create a specialised course which offers the undisputed credibility of accreditation from the world’s biggest professional Health and Safety membership organisation. The more installers that take this course, the less likely the risk of yet another tragedy occurring as a result of an unsafe gate.”
The training is also targeted at Health and Safety managers who wish to update their knowledge on this important safety issue.
Gate Safe anticipates that the first course will run in the second week of August.
