I4S video: IFSEC Centre Stage 2012 – Peter Webster (Corps Security)
A brand new education area established specifically for IFSEC International 2012, Centre Stage – located in Hall 5 at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre – plays host to several key debates.
One of those discussion forums takes place on the first day of the show – Monday 14 May – at 1.00 pm. Lasting for an hour, the debate seeks to examine the two procurement routes currently open to end users when it comes to security guarding.
First of all, there’s the multi-service model (wherein security guarding is sold as part of a ‘bundled’ service offering alongside cleaning and catering, for example) or there’s the single service model (here, security is sold in a silo).
Outlining their companies’ perspectives on which route is most favourable and why will be Geoff Zeidler (managing director at Securitas for the UK and Ireland), Bob Forsyth (managing director for MITIE Total Security Management), Shaun Cowlam (director of security, OCS Group UK), Andrew King (marketing director with G4S Secure Solutions UK) and Peter Webster, the CEO at Corps Security.
Webster’s views on this matter are well known, with Corps Security preferring to keep security as a specialism.
Advantages offered by single service specialists
For Webster, there are numerous advantages open to those customers choosing single service specialists:
- those specialists are focused on being ‘Best in Class’ at one discipline
- they invest in one service
- they innovate in one service
- they will deliver more long term cost reductions through efficiency developments
- their reputation has to be earned through quality service provision
- they add value to the importance of the service sector
“It’s arrogant to suggest that a multi-service supplier can be ‘Best in Class’ across a whole range of services,” stressed Corps Security’s leader. “I believe that the innovative, agile specialist will always win over the generalist in the longer term.”
