  • Stewart Kidd – a long-time servant of The Security Institute – has received the inaugural George Van Schalwyk Award, named in honour of the Universal Guarding professional whose helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan last July.
  • Bosch Security Systems has signalled a major long-term investment in the development of video content analytics. The company currently has 100 technicians working on this area throughout Europe.
  • The IBP-Group has been awarded a Metropolitan Police Service Commendation for “continued support of the MPS Flying Squad in respect of crime reduction initiatives, in particular rapid reaction smoke packs, Banknote Watch and the Raid-control project.”

  • Company directors Philip Jellyman and Wayne Margerison, along with operations manager Steven Margerison have been arrested and charged by Merseyside Police under Section 5 of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The Secure Guarding (UK) employees are the latest to fall foul of SIA enforcement.
  • The RFID Centre (the independent visitor centre for RFID, wireless and mobile solutions) is launching a series of half-day briefings for security managers extending their systems to the wireless world. Call 0870 762 2200 for details.
  • Dr Kiran Bedi – head of the Bureau of Police Research and Development – has welcomed the launch of IFSEC India, the security exhibition for the South Asia region that takes place from 25-27 October in New Delhi.
  • The Midlands branch of BDS Fire and Security has relocated to Unit 6, Birmingham No1 Business Park, Clement Street, Birmingham B1 2SL.
