Installer helps children to be seen

A Dorset-based installer is helping to make sure young cyclists are seen while crossing roads and riding their bikes in the dark by giving out thousands of high-visibility wrist bands.

Wessex Fire and Security has partnered with Wiltshire Police’s Junior Good Citizen Scheme by sponsoring the reflective armbands so youngsters are more visible to drivers .

Over 1,300 children from 70 schools in the Salisbury and Kennett areas attended the two good citizen schemes. All children who attended the events received a ‘slap-band’ along with road safety and recovery advice to enable them to put what into practice they’d learned.

Wessex systems surveyor Chris Trim said: “It’s a great initiative and we’re delighted to be involved … these pioneering armbands will help save children’s lives, especially when the summer is over and the darker winter nights set in earlier.”
