I believe that the Security industry, with its comparatively ‘flexible’ legislation and requirements, is far more likely to be the seedbed of the M2M revolution. IP CCTV has been around for a few years now and remote access, networked, full HD systems are already commonplace.
Given the life safety aspect which Fire systems are required to provide this seems a tougher market to revolutionise, with strict requirements on Cable burn time etc – That said, Wireless systems are now taking ground from their cabled counterparts in certain circumstances, so given time, I’m sure this will gradually become the norm.

Indeed, why worry about the burn time in a cable when you can have a wireless system? It’s early days for such systems of course, and I can’t realistically see a time that they become the norm in larger installs.

The future is radio, wireless and GSM. The amount of retro systems going into buildings and cables ruining buildings compartmentation is a major risk which is happening all to frequently.

No wires, no worries.

Fantastic point, yes Tom. I’m sure we’ve all seen the pictures of high fire-rated cables pushing a whole straight through a building’s fire-rated compartmentation!
