Mersey marvel
Run by Merseytravel, the ferry is the most popular tourist attraction in the region, but the responsibility of carrying around 700,000 passengers every day means that safety and security always top the operational agenda.
M&E contractor Rotary North West appointed Chubb to design and install fire and security systems for the new GB pound 10.5 million Pier Head Terminal due to a proven track record of delivery.
Among the challenges with the installation were the salt air and adverse weather conditions prevalent in the area. As a result, the dome cameras specified for the project are stainless steel. Images from these external domes – along with those generated by 15 cameras housed inside the terminal building – will be transmitted via radio to a Control Room within MerseyTravel’s Seacombe headquarters where they’re made available for review.
In addition to traditional CCTV cameras, Chubb has also installed state-of-the-art access control and fire technologies, with an option to roll-out similar systems for other MerseyTravel sites in the future.
