Milestone launches software to cut retail crime
XProtect Transact 2.5 should help retailers control shrinkage by tracking goods from the moment they are delivered to the store to their eventual sale.
By comparing video footage with transaction data, the software hopes to ease the fraud and theft problem that costs the UK economy GB pound 2bn a year.
A similar problem exists in the US. According to the 19th Annual Retail Theft Survey, the average stateside shoplifting incident involves $128.71 in lost goods. Employees are sometimes to blame, with one in 27 stealing an average of $851.00 from their company.
Milestone said the new software provided the necessary evidence to recover $56.6m from thieves in a recent pilot.
XProtect Transact 2.5 is said to offer improved procedures in hiring, training and monitoring. New search functions, including a list that makes browsing easier and a new SQL database that supports Microsoft Vista, have been added.
A Milestone spokesperson said, “Transactions can now trigger generic events in XProtect Corporate, XProtect Enterprise, XProtect Professional and XProtect Basis+, harnessing the full power of Milestone IP video surveillance management software.”
