State of Physical Access Trend Report 2024

Mul-T-Lock helps protect the Abbey Hotel

Code-It is a novel door handle with integrated electronic security, designed to enable conveniently controlled access to a door, without the need for any other secondary locking unit.

Battery operated, Code-It requires no electrical wiring and is equipped with a user-friendly code based mechanism, which is incorporated into the handle itself and allows up to nine personal entry codes.

Cornish Locksmiths recommended Code-It to The Abbey Hotel, where the owners were looking to update the security systems in place to ensure a consistent extra level of protection.

However, due to the historical ambience of the hotel built in the 17th century, the owners required a system that would not ruin the style of the doors or affect the overall aesthetics of the hotel.

Aesthetic challenges
Thaddeus Cox, owner of the Abbey Hotel, said: “The original building of The Abbey Hotel dates from 1660 and therefore any refurbishment measures, however small, must be carefully considered with regards to how it will impact on the aesthetics of the overall premises.

“Code-It has proven to be the perfect solution, because it looks just like a handle, but with great security benefits.

“Cornish Locksmiths easily installed it with no impact on our guests and now we can easily add and remove entry codes to individual rooms, providing cleaners with separate codes to the guests. It really is simple to use, an innovative system and its flexibility is great.”

Code-It is securely fixed from the inside of the door, preventing removal from the outside. For safety the internal handle will always allow free egress.

Simple design
Kevin Addison of Cornish Locksmiths said: “We recommended Code-It essentially because of its simple design, and ability to easily fit on the existing doors in place, to instantly upgrade the security of rooms at the Abbey Hotel.

“From the owner’s perspective, its flexibility of use means that it is the best hardware to protect those staying at the hotel.”

Matt Rice, marketing manager at Mul-T-Lock, said: “The Abbey Hotel is a great example of how Code-It is suitable for the hospitality market, where different hotel staff may need access to rooms alongside guests coming and going, who in turn each individually need a code to be live during their stay.

“And, aesthetically Code-It simply looks like any other door handle, so can suit any application.”
