New code of practice for security dogs
The new code is a revision of the previous guidelines which advised both handlers and end users for nearly ten years. It covers administration, kennelling and husbandry, equipment and clothing, training, operational requirements and transportation.
Steve Hill of NASDU said, “This Code of Practice has been written for the professional dog handler and takes the form of guidance, best practice and recommendations for the general use of security dogs regardless of NASDU membership.”
The new code of practice has also been subject to wider consultation in the industry, including talks with the SIA, DEFRA and the Home Office. It now incorporates the new National Occupational Standards 2007, The Private Security Industry Act 2001 and the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
