State of Physical Access Trend Report 2024

New conference looks to future of CCTV

The conference takes place on November 6 at Earls Court Conference Centre in London, and is designed to help attendees “exploit the latest CCTV technology to deliver a cost-effective and fit-for-purpose security solution”.

And before the main event there’s a chance to register for a pre-conference workshop on CCTV and IP integration, which is designed to help participants understand the fundamentals of IP technology and how to drive successful migration.

Pressing questions

The Next Generation CCTV conference has been designed to answer the most important questions facing the industry:

– How do I rationalise my CCTV network whilst protecting legacy investments?

– What is the optimum technology choice for me?

– How do I manage the migration to IP?

– Do I need thermal imaging/video analytics/HD?

– How can I guarantee compliance with all the legislation?

– What other business benefits can I get out of a sophisticated CCTV installation?

There will be discussion of relevant legislation, crystal ball gazing into the future of video surveillance, looking at interoperability, public space CCTV, case studies, and automation.

Speaker box

The organisers have put together a cracking line up of speakers, all of whom will be chaired by the venerable Brian Sims, editor of Security Management Today magazine.

Speakers will include Professor Bernard Jones, founder of AstraGuard; Gordon McLanaghan, emergency control centre manager, Bristol City Council; Ray Stead, CCTV manager, Portsmouth City Council; Simon Nash, senior marketing manager at Sony Europe; Dave Parkyns, CCTV development manager, Transport for London; Scott Foster, distribution manager, security & surveillance, Flir Systems; Robert Lynch, CCTV Assurance, Highways Agency; Prof. Joshua Bamfield, director of the Centre for Retail Research; Dr James Hui, visiting lecturer at the Institute of Industrial Research, University of Portsmouth, and MD, Neuron Systems; Patrick Meaney, founder of VideoAnalytics.info; and Dr David Brown, director of the Institute of Industrial Research, University of Portsmouth.

A bit of previous

At the pre-conference workshop, which takes place in the same venue on November 5, participants will look to “drill down into the fundamentals of IP technology”. Organisers say it will “help you navigate the pitfalls and challenges associated with IP implementation, and ensure you develop the optimum solution for your specific requirements”.

The workshop will be chaired by the BSIA’s technical director Alex Carmichael, and speakers include Martin Scherrer senior product manager for digital technologies at Siemens Building Technologies Security Products, Simon Adcock, MD of ATEC Security, Andy Gibson of ntl:Telewest Business, and James Winter of ASCOM.

Topics to be discussed include jargon busting, an honest appraisal of IP’s technical disadvantages, matching solutions to organisation requirements, case studies, Q&A, and an open discussion with IP experts.
