New membership for small contractors
[
A new tier of contractor membership for passive fire protection companies whose fire protection turnover is less than GB pound 250k a year is available from The Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP).
The decision to set up the new category has been prompted primarily to encourage smaller companies in the traditional fire ‘resistance’ sector to become members and in addition, to generate new members from the ‘reaction to fire’ sector.
Companies in the latter category are those that apply coatings, systems and treatments to construction substrates – such wood, masonry, plasterboard and textiles – in order to maintain or upgrade the substrate’s reaction to fire, for example spread of flame and heat propagation performance. The products for this market may be used in new construction, refurbishment and for ongoing maintenance. In some cases, these surfaces will have already been coated with other products (for example gloss paint), which degrades the reaction to fire performance.
Later this year, the ASFP will publish its Flame Retardant Coatings for the Construction Industry (Orange Book), which will list the types of products that fall into this category.
For more information on the new membership category, contact the ASFP at Association House, 99 West Street, Farnham, Surrey GU9 7EN.
