New user guide to integrated systems
The guide provides an overview of the technologies that can be incorporated into such systems and the many benefits that an integrated approach can bring to a business’ overall security. Technologies covered include access control, time & attendance, visitor management systems, CCTV, intruder alarms, fire detection equipment and external perimeter protection. It aims to help consultants, security managers and integrators to determine the potential of integration and explains the benefits of implementing a truly integrated system.
The guide says that integration offers customers a real choice by being able to link a number of components from different suppliers into one system. This can be done via protocols such as BACnet and OPC, and data integration using eXtensible Markup Language and ActiveX, which can link to many business systems.
The guide predicts the increasing adoption of network equipment, including wireless, greater central control of security systems, changes in access control token formats, and greater use of biometric technologies.
“By integrating security solutions into one management system, a business can benefit from a flexible approach to security that makes the most of all the technologies available, “says Mike Sussman, chairman of TC/8, the BSIA working group that produced the guide. “An integrated security solution can provide a return on investment by eliminating manual processes and increasing security which is vital in today’s environment.”
