Nuclear site explosion and fire kills one
An explosion and fire at nuclear plant in France has killed one person and injured four others, one of whom suffered severe burns.
The Centraco facility near Marcoule in south east France is a major site involved with the decommissioning of low level nuclear waste. It produces MOX fuel, which recycles plutonium from nuclear weapons, but does not include any reactors.
Following the blast at around 11.45am on Monday 12 September, the Nuclear Security Authority in France said there was no chemical or radioactive leak, and no danger to the public. The incident is being classed as an industrial rather than nuclear accident.
