Operation ‘Safer Cash’ targets CiT crime in West Midlands

Operation ‘Safer Cash’ is a West Midlands Police scheme to cut back on Cash-in-Transit robberies in the region, and involves high visibility police surveillance vehicles containing armed police officers carrying out overt and covert patrols covering the routes and destinations of Cash-in-Transit vehicles.
Launching the new scheme, West Midlands Police assistant chief constable (crime) Stuart Hyde told Security Management Today: “Unlike many street crime offences, which often involve young people stealing small quantities of property from each other, Cash-in-Transit robberies are at the upper end of the scale. They’re usually committed by very determined individuals who are prepared to use firearms if necessary. It’s vital that the police works closely with the security industry to tackle those criminals.”

BSIA intelligence analysts are liaising closely with the West Midlands Police to maximise the effectiveness of the operation.
