Patching up the servers, yet again
The Court hosting this particular case heard how a single police computer infected 19,000 computers over a two-week period. This embarrassment could have been prevented if the police service’s IT manager had been able to supply a simple, cost-effective, ‘click-and-patch’ tool available for the systems management server.
Such ‘click-and-patch’ tools are proven to help eliminate the cost, damage and inconvenience of network downtime suffered as a result of the ever-increasing number of malicious attacks on private and public sector organisations. Statistics show that they increase the success rate of patches from 55% to 99% for a one-off capital investment of less than GB pound 10 per desktop.
Security and IT managers would do well to bear this in mind.
