Actus International, British Maritime Security, Gemini Maritime, Marine One (PTE), Ocean Protection Services and Trident Group have been announced as the latest companies to successfully pass through the programme, and now join a growing number of leading private maritime security companies to succeed in meeting stringent due diligence checks.
The Security Association for the Maritime Industry’s (SAMI) certification programme assesses a range of different areas of a given company’s operations, in turn ensuring compliance with a range of minimum standards.
The checks are in line with guidelines issued by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and confirm that various legal, compliance and quality issues have been adequately addressed.
SAMI reports that this latest tranche of SAMI member companies to pass through the programme takes the certified members cohort to 18, while there are a further 36 are in the system currently being independently assessed.
Development on the ISO front
The success of the PMSC programme highlights the importance of certification, and SAMI is now involved in ongoing work to establish the framework and content of the new International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) developments.
SAMI has embraced this global work, and as the ISO Standard progresses the organisation will work to ensure parity of standards (and also that its certified members are able to position themselves in the market).
Current accreditations are collated on the innovative new member portal the Bridge, which serves as a maritime security ‘information hub’ for the sector to highlight certified SAMI member credentials (be they SAMI certification, ISO 9001:2008 or 28007, Trade Licenses or others).
Speaking of the role played by the Bridge, a SAMI spokesperson commented: “We consider this a vital service for our members and the maritime industry, and we are looking to gain recognition for those companies who have proved, or are in the process of proving their excellence. The Bridge is the only point of reference of which we are aware that posts collated details of all their various certifications and accreditations, thus clients can build a full picture of the PMSCs they wish to do business with.”
Thanks to feedback from SAMI members and subscribers, the Bridge has been radically improved and styled to provide ease of information retrieval and even more maritime security information, news, views, guidance and data.
