Police using new database system to track suspects

GB Accelerator IQ reduces the administrative burden on officers looking to tie suspects to an address by crawling a wide range of databases at the same time.

The specialist tool has already been adopted by the Met and Suffolk Police, which used it to track Ipswich murderer Steve Wright.

“We firmly believe that GB Accelerator IQ is making the UK a safer place to live by helping the security services to identify and profile suspects quickly,” said Richard Law, chief executive at GB Group.

“At a time when citizens in the Ipswich area felt particularly at risk, we were pleased to support Suffolk Police in helping secure a firm conviction.”

Detective inspector Phil Boswell from Suffolk Police said GB Accelerator IQ saved the force “hundreds of hours”, which would otherwise have been spent manually searching through intelligence provided by the community.

“Accurate intelligence gathering and address verification is key in an investigation of any size, but on the scale we experienced here it made officer time far more efficient and made a vital difference.”

So far police and government agencies are using the technology for the prevention and detection of crime, but developers have not ruled out selling the product to commercial enterprises.

The system would give them access to a mass of data, including telephone numbers, dates of birth and 16 years of electoral roll records. Search results also include links to aerial photographs of the subject’s home and a street mapping facility.
