Private security key to aviation expansion
Today, we are witnessing the expansion and redevelopment of existing aviation sites to cope with the demand of an increasingly transient population. Key to this is the involvement of the private security industry in the planning stages of build projects to ensure that, following a risk assessment, sufficient security solutions are duly incorporated. With comprehensive security measures available, the importance of these solutions being used to their full potential is paramount to ensure all risks are covered.
Work recently began at Bristol International Airport on a GB pound 7.5 million scheme to update facilities, including an extension to the security search area. This should increase passenger numbers passing through at peak times.
Similarly, Cornwall’s County Council will receive GB pound 20 million to convert Newquay Airport to wholly civilian use. The Council is aiming to double the number of passengers passing through the airport. ‘Designing-in’ appropriate security solutions at the planning and building/expansion stage will mean that risks are pre-empted and planned for rather than waiting for a security lapse before acting. This reduces overall airport expenditure, increases security and minimises disruption to passengers.
Enlisting quality companies to supply security products and services will ensure professional knowledge and experience is used to recommend measures that address risk and protect people, assets and image.
Aviation is an industry where the risks are far too great to even consider compromising on quality in relation to security provision. We at the BSIA are committed to providing quality solutions, and will continue to work with the aviation industry to ensure UK airports’ security.
