Project Griffin refresher programme online

Over 200 learners and 26 companies have already signed up to refresh their knowledge and understanding of practical counter-terror measures.

The web-based refresher programme, which takes around 30 minutes to complete, has been introduced specifically to include a firearms module as well as new material appropriate for London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games events. .

Don Randall MBE, the head of security at the Bank of England and national executive chairman of Project Griffin, commented: “Project Griffin continues to grow in scope on a daily basis and offers public/private sector partnership support to communities across the country. As its national executive chairman and founder I thank everyone for their participation and commend you to engage with the revised refresher programme.”

Better protected against terror threats

Project Griffin was originally introduced by the City of London Police and the Metropolitan Police Service back in April 2004 to help “London’s financial sector better protect itself against terrorist threats”.

It has since spread to businesses and security services as a way for them to educate on counter-terrorism and crime prevention, be the ‘eyes and ears’ for the police service and be fully prepared for major emergencies.

The goal of the programme is to bring together the police, fire brigade, ambulance services, the private security sector and other Government agencies in deterring and disrupting terrorist and extremist activity.

Since its inception the initiative has spread across the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Singapore, South Africa and the United States.

A complementary program dubbed ‘Project Argus’ is also deployed across the UK. This focuses on “preventing, handling and recovering from a terrorist attack.”

In practice, It takes participants through simulated but realistic terrorist attacks such that they might learn what would be likely to happen in an attack, what the priorities would be during an attack and to have the necessary plans in place before any attack takes place.
