Queen’s Awards for innovation

Safe and Sound Lighting has won the Queen’s Award for Innovation for the continuous development of its range of Snaplite recessed downlighters with inbuilt fire and acoustic protection.
Ceramicoat Tunnel Lining and Coatings, a manufacturer of specialist coatings to provide chemical and fire protection to concrete in tunnels was also recognised in the awards.
The fitting of conventional downlighters requires holes to be cut into the ceilings, which can cause serious weaknesses in fire resistance. Manufactured under license by Electro-technik, the company’s downlighters, however, retain fire resistance without needing additional protection. The latest products in the range are not only accredited to deal effectively with fire resistance and sound insulation, but also prevent condensation and heat loss. Although not a regulatory requirement, they also seal against smoke progression.
Another fire company recognised in this year’s awards is Ceramicoat Tunnel Lining and Coatings, a manufacturer of specialist coatings to provide chemical and fire protection to concrete in tunnels.
Viewed as a benchmark of business success for 40 years, the Queen’s Awards have helped thousands of firms to open up new markets, improve sales and enhance the commercial value of their products and services.
