Reliance sponsors Government-backed Community Merit Awards

The scheme is aimed at changing the mindset of young people so that they don’t fall into a life of crime by involving them in schemes that will foster long-term ties with their local community. Activities trialled thus far include work on community web sites and the design of safer routes to schools in the capital. Youths taking part can earn gift vouchers for clothes, travel permits and ‘computer time’.
Talking about the sponsorship, Reliance chairman Ken Allison told SMT: “As a company we’re committed to working with the Government and the police service in the fight against crime. Increased policing and physical security provision alone will not reduce the high levels of crime we’re all experiencing. Developing respect and responsibility among the younger fraternity is the crucial factor in the long term.”
